400KV HV Cable Pulling in Transition Trough

 As you may know there's many ways of cable pulling but today we are going to discuss about Cable Pulling in Transition trough including actual pictures and important points for safety and method statement purpose.

  • Install Cable Box Rollers on the Cable support structure and to be fastened and supported properly. Box Rollers arrangement is as shown in the attached drawing 
  • Ensure bell mouth is installed and Polywater is applied on entry pipe on the transition trough wall to reduce the friction.
  • Cable cleats in the transition troughs will not be installed prior to cable pulling operation since cable box rollers would be installed on the steel structures in the Transition Trough.
  • At bends and corners (as per site condition), box rollers shall be installed every 30cm to reduce cable side wall pressure.
  • Ensure all steel structures are designed for cable installation and inspected.
  • Transition Trough
    All cable cleats (trefoil and flat formation as per drawing) should be installed in their position
  • on the shafts before cable pulling operation.
  • For cable installation into Shafts, erect the scaffoldings at Entry/Exit Points to provide the
  • following requirements :
  • a) Enough access and reach for manpower positioned in the scaffolding platforms to have
  • control over cable installation in shaft
  • b) Enough area provided in the shaft for medical evacuation of any injured person during
  • the cable pulling operation.
  • c) Sufficient space to be provided for cable box rollers installation in the shaft and bend
  • areas in shaft entry and exit.
  • d) Scaffolding top layer of platform to be arranged to pull the cable in entry of shaft on the
  • platform and ensure that normal rollers shall be installed in above platform.
  • Guiding rope shall be provided for the guiding the cable from entry shaft to base of shaft
  • (controlled by skilled manpower)
  • Mobile crane shall be used in case required for material loading/unloading & emergency
  • evacuation
  • Stand rollers to be installed in slope between support brackets in the bottom of exit / entry
  • shafts. Please refer Drawing
  • Box rollers to be installed on the center of shaft in order to maintain the smooth bend during
  • cable laying. Also, special type of roller to be installed at top entry/exit bends in shafts. Before installing rollers on steel support provide suitable protection/ separator between steel work and cable rollers to avoid any damage to steelwork during installation/ maneuvering of cable box rollers.
  • Ensure Box rollers (at the entry shaft) are opening on the proper direction to ease cable entry/maneuvering in rollers installed in the entry bend of the shaft. Box rollers should be installed after 2 alternative structure support in the bend at entry shaft to provide suitable area to bend the cable downward in shaft entry during bond pulling
